New Beginnings in the New Forest :: Aimee & Sam’s Wedding

I drove through constant rain.  Heavy, heavy down pours which almost brought the roads to a standstill.  And then, as I arrived in Totton, Hampshire, it was suddenly blue skies and sunshine, a rarity this year it seems!

Aimee started her wedding day preparations in the hair salon where she works along with her bridesmaids, Mum and soon to be Mother in Law, before heading back to Rhinefield House Hotel ,  in the New Forest, where, in a few hours time, she would marry Sam.  As Aimee finished getting dressed in her room, Sam arrived with his best man and ushers, looking like he was savouring every second of the day.

After the ceremony, as the sun burnt away the last rain shower, Aimee, Sam and I headed off for a few photographs.

The day was kept running smoothly by one of the best Master of Ceremonies I have had the pleasure of working alongside, Mike Judd (www.mikejudd.co.uk), and guests were entertained by the amazing and very impressive close-up magic of James Prince (www.jamesprince.co.uk).

It was a wonderful day and Aimee and Sam never stopped smiling!

Congratulations Mr & Mrs Churchill!

Nothing Else Matters :: Sam & Martin’s Wedding

They put their own stamp on their wedding day and their personalities were interwoven throughout all the details; from Martin arriving on his beloved Harley Davidson, through to the colour theme of black and ivory, and their first dance to Metalllica’s “Nothing Else Matters”.

Sam had carefully chosen specific cuff links for all the groomsmen, including Harley cuff links for Martin and parrot cuff links for her Dad who runs a company called Macaw.  Martin’s wedding ring had been specially designed and made, embellished with a snake eating it’s own tail to symbolise eternity.

Sam and Martin met online and after web based conversations decided to meet up.  After driving around for a long time trying to find the right pub where they had arranged to meet, Martin finally found Sam and they never looked back.  Martin’s sister, Melli, told me how after Martin had met Sam he was completely smitten.

While Metallica would not be the first choice for most people’s first dance, it was perfectly fitting for Sam and Martin.  They are clearly in love with each other, and really, nothing else matters.

Kath & Martin’s Fuschia & Chocolate Wedding

Kath and Martin are a wonderful couple.  Friendly, warm and welcoming, they made me feel like a member of the family when I photographed their big day.  They had chosen to have  chocolate and fuschia themed day and every detail had been thought of.  The bridesmaids wore fuschia dresses, the men wore chocolate suits with fuschia ties and socks, and even the amazing chocolate rocky road cake had fuschia decorations.  The 2 flower girls had beautiful dresses made by Kath’s Mum, and Kath’s dress was just gorgeous covered in lace.  Kath looked so elegant and serene wearing it.

Later in the evening there was a sweet buffet for the kids (and big kids), and a chocolate fountain.

During the speeches Kath surprised Martin with the news that Kath’s daughter, Lily, now officially had Martin’s last name.  As their guests cheered and applauded the news Martin fought back a few tears.  Although Kath Martin and Lily are already a family you could see just how much this news meant to Martin, and as they danced their first dance later that evening Lily joined them celebrating the start of a new family.

I know that 2012 is going to be an amazing year for Kath, Martin & Lily.  Not only did Kath and Martin get married and Lilly officially become Martin’s daughter, but Martin has also been selected for the British Paralympic Football squad and I know you will join me in watching and cheering Martin and his team mates on to victory!

A massive congratulations to Kath & Martin, Mr & Mrs Sinclair!

The Right Light :: Clare & Simon’s Enagement Shoot

I love doing engagement shoots.  It gives me the opportunity to get to know my bride and groom better so that on their wedding day I can give them photographs which really capture their personalities and relationship making their photographs even more personal to them.

Clare and Simon are getting married at Avington Park, Hampshire, in August this year and chose to have their engagement shoot done there as well.  Avington Park is a stunning building dating back to the 10th Century.  While it is now a private home, the grounds are open to public access on Sundays and Bank Holidays.  We had the peaceful grounds to ourselves apart from a few watchful Peacocks.

Clare asked me a very interesting question whilst we were doing the shoot, she asked what I am looking for when I set up each shot.  Whatever type of shoot I am doing, the most important consideration is the light (after all the word photography literally means light drawing).  It is a common misconception that bright sunlight is the best light for photography, however I try to avoid direct sunlight wherever possible – I don’t want my subjects squinting or seeing sun blotches after the shot! So on bright sunny days where there is harsh direct sunlight I look for spots where the light is diffused or reflected.  This gives a much softer, flattering light and is much more comfortable for the people I am photographing.  This doesn’t mean that all the images look as though they are taken in shadows, as you can see from some of Clare and Simon’s images below, in some locations it can still look bright and sunny.

Clare and Simon are a lovely couple.  They have a great relationship and a lot of fun with each other, there was no shortage of giggles and laughter on the shoot!  Here are a few images from their engagement shoot.

Hannah & Adam’s Engagment Shoot at Winkworth Arboretum

It was drizzling very heavily when I arrived at Winkworth Arboretum in Surrey, half an hour before Hannah & Adam’s engagement shoot.  I very nearly called them to postpone it but I’m glad I didn’t because, in true English weather style, half an hour later the drizzle had cleared up and the sun was fighting its way through the clouds.  It was Easter Sunday and while visitors with kids took part in the Easter egg hunt, Hannah, Adam and I made I way around the quieter areas of the Arboretum.  Here are a few images from their shoot.
